It has been almost three months and I promise I did not die. This is not my murderer typing and I'm not some hacker who stumbled upon Pam's password. If someone had murdered me it would have been science. Anyways, I am here to tell you about my new favorite jeans, an amazing amazon dupe, and a "classy" sweater. Outfit Details: Beaded Pearl Sweater in Gray - H&M, Mile High Super skinny Jeans in Shut the Front Door- Levi's, Quilted Chain Strap Bag in Leopard - Amazon, Ballet Flats in Cognac (similar) - Target These Levi's are my absolutely new favorite pair of jeans. They are super high wasted, hitting at the navel, just below where my navel ring lands. I love that there is no catching on my navel ring and I feel completely held in. I'm also obsessing over the length. It's been a rough few months searching for jeans, every pair I find is "ankle length". I put that in quotes for a reason, true ankle length would be fine, but these all seem to fall a few inches above my ankle. I know I have long legs but this seems a bit ridiculous. The only thing stopping me from starting a revolt against jean makers is this style. Originally $98, this wash is on sale from Levi's for around $45 (and they currently have an additional 30% off). I'll probably end up getting them in a few more shades myself. My sweater was a surprise purchase from H&M. Over the past few months I have been relatively underwhelmed by their selection but I love this sweater and its scattered pearls. Pearlized accessories are definitely a trend right now and I like that this sweater incorporates that into clothing without being over powering. It also comes in red and black. The purse might be the highlight of this post. This was an Amazon Prime find and I love it. It's a Chanel dupe with a leopard printed flap. The chain has great weight to it and I enjoy wearing it crossbody just as much as on my shoulder or in my hand. It's also huge. You can fit an iPad mini in it! Best of all, It's $29.99 and Prime free shipping and returns. Time for a couple bloopers!

Fall is finally here and I couldn't be more excited! This is going to be a quick one, I am in the middle of midterm season, which feels like it started 2 weeks into the semester and there is no end in sight. Anyways, fashion week has come and gone and although I did not attend I was paying attention and I'm here to report on some trends. Some looks like over the knee boots and pajama style shirts are sticking around. And there are some fun new prints to mix in. Raise your hand if you love feeling like you could just crawl directly into bed after a day of killing a "lewk".
Outfit details: Pajama Style Shirt (similar) - Express, Over The Knee Boots - Steve Madden, Checked Purse - Target,
Dark Wash Jeans (similar) - GAP I have linked some more shirt and boot options below
One of the few patterns that was all over the runway this season was black and white checked print and I love the idea of incorporating bold prints as an accessory. So I was supper excited when I found this cross body at Target. I love the lavender color on the sides and the structured nature. It's sophisticated, fun, and can truly elevate an outfit.
Did you miss me? I knew things were going to get crazy once September got underway but I really underestimated what my schedule would look like. The best way to describe the situation is that I have one exam a week for the next four weeks. And I swear, one of the exams is an entire semester's worth of biochemistry. Anyways, now that I have complained, lets get to the good stuff. Outfit details: Black Polka Dot Dress - Amazon, Round Rattan Bag - Amazon, Red Tassel Earrings (similar) - J. Crew, Natori Black Floral Bra - Nordstrom Back at the beginning of August (yes, I took that long to write this up), I took a trip up to Rochester, NY for a mini reunion with some of my favorite sorority sisters. And they were kind enough to take my picture.
I was absolutely in love with this dress when I saw Colette LeClair of @colette.prime feature it on her Instagram. If you don't follow Colette, then you are doing life wrong. She is an absolute wizard at scouring Amazon to find looks for less or just generally cute pieces like this dress. I love that it not only is covered in polka dots but also has the ruffles to give it extra dimension. Check out Colette"s Amazon page here. I also scoured Amazon for you and found this surprisingly roomy round rattan bag. This was the purse of the summer but I just could not get on board with buying one for $80- $120 when I already own a straw bag. But then I found this gem for under $30; it was a no-brainer. I styled the look with a pair of old sandals from Old Navy but you could go with really any camel- chestnut colored flat sandal or wedge. And in case you missed it my all time favorite bra is peaking out. Check the the caption for all the links and keep scrolling for some more pics and a blooper.
Here is just a quick round up of some of my favorite sales going on this weekend.
Ann Taylor has 40% off full-priced items abut more importantly they have an extra 60% off sale styles. Here are a few of my favorites from the sale section.
Urban Outfitters has an extra 30% off sale items. I had every intention of writing this post and not actually purchasing anything myself but that plan went right out the window when I saw the sale swim options. Run, don't walk, to the website. UO is beyond in tune with what's necessary when it comes to end of season swim. They also have some great fall options as well!
Nordstrom is also having a great sale. If you missed the Anniversary Sale this is an excellent second chance to snag some steals. There are way too many options so I'll let you do the digging. check out the awesome selection here. Happy Shopping!
It's a cooler day here in New jersey and it has me thinking about a particular day back in DC. On a rare, beautiful, mid-70s day in DC my friend and I decided to spend our time running around Georgetown. It's one of my favorite areas, reminds me of Boston, and I spent way too little time there during my two years. It was a day filled with shopping, Italian food, a blister or two because I wore new shoes (rookie mistake), and most importantly doughnuts. And while doing it all I wore some of my favorite pieces. Outfit Details : Medium Wash Jeans - Old Navy, Gingham Top - SHEIN, Tassel Earrings (similar) - J.Crew , Red Flats (similar) - Target The Details: This may be the millionth time I've said it but these are the most comfortable jeans I have ever own. That's probably why I have them in four different washes. You can't deny it Old Navy comes through on jeans. Like any pair of shoes, these needed to be broken in and with every pair of shoes, I decided to ignore this fact. I always have Band-Aids on hand for this exact reason. Now that I have worn them a few times, these sling-back flats are super comfy. They are sold out but I really like the similar ones I have linked above. Gingham has been around every summer but recently I have really embraced the print. I love that this top is lightweight and long in the back, making it highly versatile. I feel comfortable wearing it on hot days and on breezy ones. And of course I rounded out the outfit with a fun tassel earring. I have nothing to PamSplain about these. They are, plain and simple, a fun statement piece. Somehow and unfortunately, there are not any bloopers from this shoot. I am so sorry to let you all down, at least I consider them the highlight of every post.
Summer is hot and 8 times out of 10 I am not here for it. Like I've said before some people get hangry, I get heat angry. I have this catch phrase hat I abuse...I rather be cold than hot because you can only take so many layer off but you can always put more on. Also, I have some crazy pale skin and skin cancer is a huge concern for me. To deal with these challenges I always seek out clothing that covers my shoulders but doesn't leave me wanting to strip and run around naked in public. Cue the cotton T-shirt dress. There is no greater invention on this planet (well I guess electricity is pretty awesome too).
A good T-shirts dress is light, but heavy enough that the wind isn't going to blow it up Marilyn Monroe style, long enough that your butt doesn't hang out when you bend over, and has movement so you don't feel restricted in it.
I am also a huge fan of wearing sneakers with my T-shirt dresses, particularly white sneakers. I just love the challenge of keeping them clean (jokes). I'm usually walking around a lot so I gravitate towards more of an athletic sneaker over something like a pair of Keds. In my experience, no one make a more comfortable sneaker than Nike. I know people swear by other brands but I just don't agree.
In addition to my sneakers and a similar T-shirt dress I linked above here are some more options. All the dresses are under $50, most are under $25, and all the sneakers are $70 and under.
...and a blooper, of course
The Anniversary Sale has been open to the public for about a week now, I think, so it's time to let you know my thoughts on the pieces I ordered. The sale ends August 5th so you have 6 days left to shop (if I did the math right). Let me start off by saying that I faced all the same struggles as everyone else with ordering the first day the sale went live and then some. I placed my orders on July 12th and I still have not received some of my items. But I digress (what's new?). In no particular order here is the official Pamsplain of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. 1. STS Blue Emma High Waist Ankle Skinny Jeans in Merryl - I am obsessed with these! They fit so well, snug but not too snug, the crop hits right at my ankle, and I just feel so good in them. Honestly I feel like Karli Kloss. They are definitely true to size, I got a 25. Right now they are $38.90 and after the sale they will be $59
2. BB Dakota Maggie Brushed Fleece Drape Collar Coat - I have been searching for a good transitional coat for a few years now. I have always relied on my North Face fleece but recently it has become incredibly apparent that I need something that covers my butt. This coat definitely does the trick. I love the draped collar. It looks good zipped and unzipped and I love that I can cinch the back. The design is ideal for wear with and without a sweatshirt or heavy sweater. The coat runs true to size, I went with a small so I could layer. Right now the coat is $79.99 and after the sale it will be $120 3. Natori Flora Underwire Bra - I recently fell in love with this brand of bras so I went a little crazy during the sale and bought three. I love the slight sexiness the floral mesh gives the bra and it helps that it is super comfortable. Right now, $46.90, after the sale, $70. 4. Natori Conform Underwire Full Fit Contour Bra - This one is more full coverage. I would consider it a t-shirt bra style. Perfect for everyday wear. Right now, $46.90, after the sale, $70. 5. Steve Madden Trace Studded Mule - Okay, so I haven't received these yet, therefore, I am not going to comment on the fit, comfort, or quality. I will say that I have high expectations. Because I work in a laboratory I have to wear closed toed shoes and a mule, especially one this cute is the perfect pair of shoes. Right now, $49.90, after the sale , $79.95. 6. J.Crew Très Chic Tee - I love this graphic tee for a casual day with a pair of jeans or to dress it up with a midi skirt. My one comment on this top is that it definitely runs small. I first ordered the XS but ended up returning it and getting a small. It was just too snug for a tee. Right now, $29.50, after the sale, $45. 7. BP. Raw Edge V-Neck Tee - I was super excited about this top; I really need to replace my basic tees. Unfortunately it is kind of hit or miss. The fit changed with each color I purchased and I wouldn't be surprised if it varied from shirt to shirt within colors. It looks like I will be keeping 1 of 4 that I purchased. The price is good so I would suggest giving it a shot and you can always return it if you want. Right now, $11.90, after the sale, $17. 8. 1822 Denim Butter High Waist Skinny Ankle Jeans in Donna - Not in love with the "butt wear" on this wash and I will be returning them. Right now, $28.90, after the sale, $44. 9. 1822 Denim Butter High Waist Skinny Ankle Jeans in Rinse - Love this all over dark color. I feel like this wash is very slimming and they run true to size, I got a 25. One thing to note. They have faux front pockets...I know that is a deal breaker for some people. Right now, $28.90, after the sale, $44. 10. Steve Madden Brinkley Over the Knee Stretch Boot - Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes. In the words of Rachel Zoe, "I Die". I love these boots. They are so comfortable and they hit just right so that they are super slimming. My lower leg has never looked to sleek. True to size, I got a 7.5. These are possibly my favorite item from the sale. Right now, $86.90, after the sale, $129.95. 11. Natori Feathers Underwire Contour Bra - Another Natori Bra, I told you I like the brand. I have this exact bra in hot pink and it is so comfortable. Although not technically a plunge bra it definitely can serve as one. Right now, $44.90, after the sale, $68. Oh! And one last item. I have been loving tie waist dresses. The 90's kid in me thinks it looks like there is a sweatshirt tied around my waist. Anyways, Nordstrom has one in the sale. Right now it is $31.90 and after the sale it will be $49. Click the picture to shop.
So this is the one time a year I'm going to tell you to splurge on something that isn't normally considered a basic. Sun safety is no joke and since summer is in full gear here in DC I thought it was a good time to share with you some beach accessories I live by and a few items that are worth the splurge.
Two holy grail items are my S'well bottle and my sunhat. I love that a sun hat looks cute but also does a really great job at preventing a sun induced headache. Also that horrid part burn that you never seem to feel coming on but is lobster red a few hours later when you get inside. I know you know what I'm talking about. A S'well bottle is definitely an investment type of water bottle but it is so worth it, the company isn't lying when they say it will keep your cold liquids cold for 24 hrs. There is nothing worse than trying to quench your thirst (if we are doing it right there wouldn't be a thirst to quench) than warm water and that will never happen with one of these. Here are some of my favorite sun hats and S'well patterns.
I have super sensitive skin so I only use sunblocks that are free of fragrance and parabens. I made this switch about 6 years ago. I went on a spring break trip to Puerto Rico (loved it, all I want to do is go back) and I came back with a horrible rash. I was put on both oral and topical steroids. No one wanted to apply the ointment to my back but I convinced one sorority sister to do it and I will never be able to repay her.
Turns out I'm allergic to high intensity sun exposure and many common sunblocks (only I would have this problem and not know about it). My dermatologist recommended I use Blue Lizard Baby Sunblock and I haven't looked back. I love that the bottle turns pink in UV light and although the lotion can feel greasy in your hand, once you apply it dries very nicely and I never feel sticky.
And finally the splurge item. I live for UPF 50+ clothing. The clothing doesn't just cover me from the sun but it actually protects me. The Lilly Pulitzer UPF 50+ line is the perfect beachwear and I love how saturated the color can be. I usually purchase these items during the semi-annual After Party Sale. I've linked some of my Lilly favorites below and few less expensive options as well.
And now for the rest of the pictures I took and of course some bloopers. Would it even be a PamSplaining Post without some bloopers?
It's finally spring! You wouldn't know it by the temperatures in DC but it is. And that means I can be less concerned about getting my shoes dirty. I've learned that, in DC, they prepare for snow by salting the roads but it usually just rains and this makes a mess. So, although it started as a fall/winter trend, I am only now jumping on board the floral embroidered sneaker train. I am loving it!
I got this pair from target and of course they are sold out already so I have linked a few alternative options below. Many are under $50 too!
And here some options that are still available!Watch out world I'm back and I'm ready to Pamsplain the shit out of everything. I took the month of February off so I could focus on getting into PhD programs and I managed to get accepted into 3. The one I pick has no idea what is coming for them and let's just hope they don't regret their choice. Now onto more important things. One of the greatest things about DC is the endless amount of free museums to visit. I recently went over to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden...truly just because I wanted to sit in this room filling up with paper. It was an a dynamic installation and it was strangely mesmerizing and calming. I also spent some time exploring the other pieces of art and of course I had my friend take an obnoxious amount of photos of me. Because, why not?! I dressed for the occasion with a blue faux suede moto jacket and steele gray Old Navy jeans. The dark colors were an excellent contrasts to the crisp white paper. You can't see them in the photo above but I wore the most comfortable pair of black loafers. I love that they have this hidden gold accent on them too. Find them here. What "Pam look" would be complete without a little lip color? This time around I went for my trusty Marc Jacobs le marc lip crème in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
